Government of Canada Launches the Canada Dental Benefit
On December 1, 2022, the Government of Canada announced a new dental care benefit for families with children under the age of 12 and an annual income less than $90,000, as part of the federal government commitment to a broader national dental insurance program for all Canadians with incomes under $90,000 by 2025.
The Canada Dental Benefit provides families who lack access to private dental care coverage through employment, private purchase or otherwise funded by government, with support to ensure their children receive the dental care they need. Applications must be submitted through the Canada Revenue Agency site.
Eligible parents or guardians will receive up-front tax-free payments to cover dental expenses, once attesting to the following:
- Their child does not have access to private dental care coverage.
- They will have out of pocket dental care expenses for which they will use the benefit.
- They understand they will need to provide documentation to verify out of pocket expenses (receipts) if required.
